As an artist, I always look for and notice patterns and repeating symbols.

Water specifically has been a reoccurring element in terms of the things I’ve find myself being drawn to. FUN FACT: The majority of my top favourite songs either have a body of water in the title or lyrics, or the cover of the album/single has a body of water or features a colour that reminds me of water.

I’m also absolutely in love with forests and the colour green, so when I found out that Holt means a wood in English, I knew it was meant to be (as I had just randomly chose that name thinking it had a nice ring to it).

For those who have been following along with me and my journey for a while, you will know that I’m not a huge fan of social media or just being online in general. I stay online as I enjoy connecting with other like minded creatives and seeing their work. I am however not fond of giving so much of myself away, especially in a space that’s becoming increasingly unsafe. This funnily enough was the second reason why I wanted to change my name.

The first reason is because as well as being an artist, I am also a writer, poet and soon to be fiction author, so what better excuse do I have to have a pseudonym than for my upcoming novel?

If you have read my first book, I See The Night Within The Day (Which I am editing to republish under my new name - so I will make a brand new blog post when that gets relaunched), then you will know that I had shut down the art business that I had been running for 2 and a bit years. I was in the process of reviving it as I had started to use completely different art supplies but now I’m thinking I no longer need to.

I’m rediscovering myself again and figuring out which direction I want to be going in artistically.

I’ve reflected a lot on the person I used to be and realised that I no longer want to live up to my past potential. I can take everything I’ve learned over the years and put it into something new.

Ocean Holte allows me to try new things and to start over. It also perfectly incorporates all the things I love and the things I am drawn to creatively. The H is also the first letter of my last name with the e being the first letter of my middle names so I feel like I still have a part of me in the name.

Welcome to the future! This new chapter starts now.
